WD VelociRaptor 6OOGB, Fast Performance with Large Capacity

Western Digital (WD) VelociRaptor can be regarded as the fastest hard drive in its class. Unfortunately, some users are still complaining about the relatively small capacity when compared with other hard drive.

Good things began to gradually remedy by the presence of WD VelociRaptor 6OOGB. This capacity of 600 Gigabyte hard drive is still leaving as supernatural powers of the previous series.

Secret Behind The Beast Performance

Since its launch in 2003 ago, the ranks of Western Digital Raptor already has the highest performance in class of hard drives. So did the next series at each successive release up to the latest series, WD VelociRaptor 6OOGB.

The secret behind high performance is none other than that spelled out the amount of buffer memory is very large, i.e. 32 MB. Besides WD VelociRaptor 6OOGB also has 10.000 RPM rotational speed.

It is also increasingly supported by the SATA interface that is able to eject the data up to 6GB/s, the proper course to make this product be the fastest in its class.

In addition to having a high literacy rate, this product also comes with a cooling system as well as ‘home’ for the WD VelociRaptor 6OOGB. So, even if used a day of nonstop in the state of the closed casing, shaped cooling fins are able to suppress the heat generated.

SSD Storage challenger

Compared with other storage media-based Solid State Drive (SSD), Could be WD VelociRaptor 6OOGB dubbed as the SSD challenger?

SSD-based storage media, it has some advantages from the hard disk. Starting from a higher performance, lower power consumption, until the resistance to shock has yet to be owned by platter-based storage.

If judging from the number of tests performed, WD VelociRaptor is able to pass the reading ability offered by SSD WD SiliconEdge Blue. This is evidenced in the application of HD Tune which recorded an average speed of 107.9 MB for SSD, and 123.6 for the VelociRaptor.

If seen from the specifications and performance are offered, this hard drive can be used as an alternative to more expensive SSDs are priced. To redeem 6OOGB WD VelociRaptor, the user must spend at least USD 329. The price is quite expensive for a hard drive, but much cheaper when compared with SSD which touched USD 900 for 600 GB numbers.

Pros:
+ High performance
+ Do not remove excess heat

Weaknesses:
- Most expensive in class Harddrive
